PALACE OF FINE ARTS
- Dimensions: 420 × 350 ft; dome 120 ft diameter, 150 ft high
- Style: Classical, with eagle ornamentation
Designed by James H. Windrim and completed by W. J. Edbrooke, this classical hall was crowned by a steel-framed dome 150 feet high. Inside, it presented the nation’s self-image at the close of the nineteenth century: a guardian of natural resources through forestry and agriculture displays, a promoter of science through Smithsonian and Fish Commission collections, and a power sustained by administration and war.
